TALBOT HOUSE 1919 - 1931
When, on the 11th November 1918, the war finished, the proprietors of the house returned to Poperinge. The British troops left the town, and also Tubby left Talbot House. The 'homeless' Talbotousians could not forget the house and what they had experienced and dream of a Toc H in peacetime. In 1922 the spirit of Talbot House created the international Toc H movement. Frequently, the Toc H movement organized pilgrimages to the battlefields of Ieper, and invariable a visit to Talbot House was on their programme - with or without the knowledge of the family Coevoet, the inhabitants of the house. In 1929, the proprietor offered the house for sale, and Toc H grabbed this unique chance. With the money of Lord Wakefield of Hythe, the former 'home from home' was purchased and donated for this purpose founded 'vzw Talbot House'. The official re-opening of the house took place on the 5th April, 1931.
