Major Slessor, the first Secretary of the vzw, played an important part in the refurbishment of the regained 'home from home'. The house became a place of memory where the countless pilgrims were offered accommodation during their stay in Flanders Fields. For their comfort, Slessor constructed a sanitary complex in the garden. Nowadays, this bathhouse has been renovated as a fully fledged presentation area. By commemorating Slessor's care for the visitor the building is still and quite rightly called the 'Slessorium'.
"The benison of hot water' for many a grateful traveller."
