Ladies at Talbot House
Talbot House was a ‘home from home’ for thousands of British soldiers during the First World War. But did you know that some remarkable women also played an important role in its history?
On this tour, you’ll uncover their inspiring stories. Meet Allison MacFie, who attended one of Tubby’s famous ‘Garden Parties’ during WWI and later became a leading figure in the Toc H movement. Or do you already know Jeanne Battheu? She used to join Tubby’s children’s parties and remained a proud Talbotousian throughout her whole life. And let’s not forget her sister, Yvonn Battheu. During WWII, she fought to protect the House from the Germans and, alongside the other ‘Bridgebuilders’, welcomed soldiers after the liberation of Poperinge – just as Tubby used to during WWI.
This experience puts powerful women in the spotlight. After the tour you can enjoy a delightful ‘high tea’.
