Will you be joining the soldiers to celebrate Christmas at their club? Far from home and their families, these lads were determined to celebrate Christmas just as they would at home, come what may. And that is exactly what Father Tubby made possible at his Talbot House. Sheet music for Christmas carols was copied out, an ox and a donkey were bought from a toy shop, and a magic show was put together. Christmas was going to happen, come what may. The children of Poperinge, caught up in a war that wasn’t theirs, were also invited.

On 19 and 20 December, we’ll take you on a journey through time. Join around fifteen British soldiers on lively storytelling tours through their club and discover the hilarious and emotional Christmas tales. In an authentic and respectful experience, our actors bring the past back to life. Sing along with them to songs played on the old piano, have a peek inside their bags and find out all about their kit, or climb the ladder with them to the chapel to join the priest for Christmas Mass.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Christmas without a party. In the Concert Hall, there’s a proper British Christmas cake buffet complete with a bar. Don’t worry, there’s Belgian Christmas beer too.

This event forms part of the standard tour of Talbot House on Saturday and Sunday, 19 and 20 December. No booking is required; tickets are available at the door between 10.00 and 16.30. We close at 17.30.
