Having managed to scrounge a printing outfit (slightly soiled) at a reasonable price, we have decided to reproduce the Wipers Times. The 23 issues, along with extensive newly researched commentary, free museum/ brewery tickets and never before published special editions, will arrive at your trench or letterbox on the day of publication, 110 years on. Founding father Captain Frederick Roberts of the Sherwood Foresters has handed over the baton, or should we say composing stick, to the team at Talbot House in Poperinge. The new editorial sanctuary is a bit more of a quieter affair since the neighbours have moved on. Through the editors grandchildren, Fred’s full set of 23 print proofs, complete with sensor stamps, notes and spelling errors, landed at Talbot House. This is a truly a unique set. And guess what… it can be yours!
Our plan of attack is simple. Pay a one off subscription of € 175 (or £ 150) and get three years of fun & laughter with all the below perks:
- 23 issues of the original set of Wipers Times scanned from the print proofs formerly owned by Editor Fred Roberts. Plus, we throw in a forgotten evening edition and never before printed edition of the B.E.F. Times. All will be delivered to you on the day they were originally published, a 110 years on. Starting on 12 February 2026 and finishing on 1 December 2028. Postage for EU & UK is included. For other continents, please get in touch. - Each issue is accompanied by extensive commentary, providing background information behind the stories, the publishers and their printing presses. The authors and their family have left us some, mostly never before printed, quotes, biographies and stories. We’ve dug up some never before printed materials too. Finally, we are teaming up with some historians and experts to unleash lots of new information on the Wipers Times ‘gang’.
- Take the subscription and support the exhibition on the Wipers Times at Talbot House which is set to open in December 2026. Of course you are invited to the opening and surly we must toast a few Wipers Times beers on the occasion. An additional bottle for home, some coasters and a voucher for a repeat visit to Talbot House are included. So you can Pop in to Poperinge for a pop up visit or just to go on the pop.
- We’ll keep you up to date and offer reductions on other related events such as lectures or battlefield tours. During these pilgrimages, we provide background on where they got their inspiration from, where they dug their trenches and where some of their men are buried today.
- Come on a free brewery tour in the Kazematten Brewery where some of the early papers were produced and try all of the different Wipers Times beers. Tours run every Saturday throughout most of the year.
