Step into this authentic soldiers’ home and discover how British troops found comfort, relaxation, and camaraderie between 1915 and 1918.
From the cozy living room to the chapel in the attic, every room breathes history and offers a unique perspective on the impact of war on everyday life.

A War Museum with a Human Story
Talbot House was founded in 1915 by chaplain Philip "Tubby" Clayton as a haven for British soldiers. While Poperinge served as a bustling transit town for troops heading to the Ypres front, Talbot House provided a welcoming refuge where everyone was equal, regardless of rank or status.

Unlike the rowdy taverns and bars that many soldiers frequented, Talbot House was known for its warm, homely atmosphere. Here, soldiers could:
✔ Write letters to their families
✔ Make music and read books
✔ Find a moment of peace and reflection in the attic chapel

What Makes Talbot House Different from Other WWI Museums?
No focus on weapons or battles, but on the experiences of the soldiers.
Original furniture and artifacts bring history to life.
Personal stories of the men who stayed here.
Today, Talbot House is a living museum, where visitors can still feel the atmosphere of over 100 years ago.
