The garden

Relax, stroll around carefree or enjoy a delicious picnic in one of the most attractive places on the property: the garden of Talbot House.

History

The largest room of the House, as inspiration Tubby called the garden, was a favorite resting and meeting place for soldiers and is an environment where visitors still enjoy spending time today. And just like in every corner of the House, there is a story hidden in every corner of the Garden.

In 1915 there was a two-storey shed at the back of the garden, from which a carpenter's workbench was fished and promptly converted into an altar. You see, there is no shortage of imagination. The barn was completely renovated and since 2022 you as a visitor can enjoy an overnight stay in The Garden House in complete comfort. And just like in every corner of the House, there is a story hidden in every corner of the Garden.

On the side of the house there is a large cellar under the garden. This turned out to be the dream shelter for many women and children during the war. Although the cellar might have offered little protection in the event of a direct hit, the illusion of safety provided something for those who came to take shelter there.

The Slessorium

In 1930, after the purchase of the house by the non-profit organization Talbot House, a number of adjustments were made to the Garden. Under the watchful eye of Major Paul Slessor, secretary of the Talbot House association, the water supply was addressed and a bathhouse was built to provide sanitary facilities for the many visitors, the Slessorium. Today the Slessorium serves as an exhibition space.
